One Pair of Shoes, One Long Journey – MAXTECH’s Exclusive Kid’s Day Present

Today is June 1st, International Children’s Day. In a small village in Tanzania, a group of children received a special holiday gift – 100 brand-new pairs of shoes from  China. Behind this gift lies a simple wish from a Chinese company: to make good products and do good deeds.

A Service Visit That Touched Hearts

The story began three month ago. MAXTECHhad shipped a batch of Marine Cranes to Tanzania. As part of the company’s service commitment, two engineers were sent to the customer’s site to provide free installation guidance and operational training. During their downtime, with the help of a local guide, they visited a village near the project site.

What they saw left them deeply troubled. Many adults and children in the village walked barefoot on dirt and gravel roads. The children’s soles were thick with calluses, some even bearing wounds. The local soil contains a parasite commonly known as “sand fleas,” which can burrow into the human body through the soles of the feet, causing severe infections and diseases. For these children, being without shoes meant not just discomfort, but a real health threat.

“One of our colleagues squatted down and asked a little boy, ‘What gift do you want for Children’s Day?’ The boy thought for a long time, then pointed at the colleague’s sneakers.” Recalling the moment later, the engineer’s voice still carried emotion.

A Relay of Kindness – One Hundred Pairs of Shoes Collected

After returning to the company, the two engineers shared what they had seen and heard with all their colleagues. MAXTECH’s management decided immediately to launch a charity shoe drive – “Sending Shoes to Tanzanian Children” – calling on employees and friends from all walks of life to donate shoes for children and adults.

The response exceeded all expectations after the news spread through the company’s official WeChat account and employees’ social media circles. Some people sent brand-new children’s shoes; others bought sandals and sneakers from wholesale markets; a retired teacher even donated a pair of cloth shoes she had made by hand. Within just one month, the company received over 200 pairs of shoes. After careful screening and sorting, 100 complete, clean pairs were selected and packed by size and season.

The next challenge was how to get the shoes to the children in Tanzania. International logistics are expensive and customs clearance is complicated. Fortunately, a travel agency that regularly operates trips between China and Tanzania learned about the initiative and offered to help – a tour leader on an upcoming trip to that very region could carry the shoes as checked luggage and hand them over to a local contact free of charge.

Today, on Children’s Day, those 100 pairs of shoes finally travelled over ten thousand kilometers and reached the children in the village. In the photos sent back, the children’s faces lit up with pure smiles as they held their new shoes.

An Unexpected Reward: Resonance with French Clients

What the MAXTECH team did not expect was that this charity activity would also bring an unexpected “bonus” to their business. Last week, two clients from France visited MAXTECH to discuss further crane procurement and cooperation. During the conversation, a MAXTECH representative casually mentioned the company’s shoe drive for the Tanzanian village.

The two French clients were very interested and asked in detail about how the activity started, the logistics, and what the follow-up plans were. They shared that they themselves had long been involved in charitable projects in their hometown, such as sponsoring underprivileged students and participating in environmental protection activities. “The fact that your engineers actively noticed and cared about the difficulties of strangers far away makes us feel that yours is a company with a heart,” one of them said.

This shared sense of values made the cooperation discussions go very smoothly. The clients not only confirmed their order intentions on the spot, but also voluntarily expressed a desire to participate in MAXTECH’s future charitable activities. They even offered to connect MAXTECH with French non-profit organizations to explore more cross-border charity projects.

“We just mentioned it casually, and we never expected them to take it so seriously,” said a MAXTECH marketing representative with a smile. “But maybe that’s the most beautiful thing about charity – it creates genuine trust and connection between people and between companies, beyond mere business interests.”

More Than 100 Pairs of Shoes

For MAXTECH, this shoe drive is not a one-off act of kindness. The company has decided to establish a regular corporate social responsibility mechanism: in the future, for every order completed, a certain percentage of the profit will be allocated to the “MAXTECH Charity Fund,” which will support public welfare projects in areas such as education, health, and poverty alleviation. In the next phase, the company plans to carry out projects like “donating water purification equipment” and “building reading corners in rural primary schools” in Tanzania and other places in need.

“We are a company that makes heavy equipment – cranes, mooring systems – all very ‘hard’. But we also hope that MAXTECH can have a very ‘soft’ heart,” the company’s leader said during an internal meeting.

Today, 100 pairs of shoes have reached the children in Tanzania. This is only the beginning.
