Product Overview

The MAXTECH Portal Crane is a heavy-duty rail-mounted portal crane engineered for cargo loading/unloading at ports, terminals, and shipyards. Featuring a metal truss structure jib, this crane is specifically designed to maintain stable operation in strong wind environments — a critical requirement for coastal facilities that frequently face gale-force conditions

Key Design Features

Metal Truss Jib – Engineered for Wind Resistance

The jib employs a lattice truss structure (triangular or quadrilateral frames welded from structural steel), which offers:

1. Lightweight construction — lower self-weight compared to box-section designs

2. High strength-to-weight ratio — material concentrated in chord members and diagonals for optimal load distribution

3. Reduced wind load — air flows through the open truss, minimising lateral forces

4. Lower operating costs — smaller-capacity wind anchoring devices required

5. Easy maintenance — open structure allows visual inspection, internal access for coating, and natural drainage to prevent corrosion

In shipyard applications where crane spans often exceed 60 metres, truss main girders weigh only 40% to 55% of equivalent box-girder designs. This weight reduction translates directly to lower wheel loads, reduced track and foundation costs, and improved overall crane mobility.

Four Working Mechanisms

The MAXTECH Portal Crane is equipped with four core mechanisms that work in coordination to enable broad, flexible operations along the quayside:

Mechanism Function
Hoisting Mechanism Vertical lifting and lowering of loads — the core power component of the crane
Luffing Mechanism Changes the jib angle to adjust the working radius (operating reach)
Slewing Mechanism Provides 360° continuous rotation for full coverage of the working area
Travel (Gantry) Mechanism Drives the entire crane along quayside rails to reposition as needed

The first three mechanisms are integrated into the rotating superstructure, enabling simultaneous multi-motion operation for maximum productivity. The travel mechanism allows the crane to move along the entire quayside, covering multiple vessel hatches and workstations from a single installation.
